Finding My Way

Though I’ve still been actively posting on social media, I’ve been quiet on the blog lately. At some point during the fall, I lost my way. I didn’t know what to write about. Some call that writer’s block but it felt like something different and I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

I finally figured it out.

I have several passions and interests. I’ve always been a very curious person. I love the things of God, cooking, writing (poetry, essays, fiction, etc..), photography, music, art and artists, reading (books, articles, newspapers, etc.…) and so on. I’m passionate about speaking up for those (and I’m a part of this group) who have experienced abuse, oppression, poverty, and racism. I love to read about sociology, history, and literature.

The problem wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to write about. It’s that I had too many things to choose from. Should this be a blog about my faith? Or photography? Or abuse? Or……?

Then a dear friend told me to write about it all.

Isn’t that too much? Shouldn’t I have a focus?

“Oh, Tanisha. Just be you.”

Those were the affirming words I needed to hear.

So, I’ll be a little of all the above- just as I am in my day-to-day life which often finds me reading the Bible, trying new recipes, taking photographs or editing them, reading about history or race in America, and listening to music almost the entire time.

Here’s to allowing 2017 to be the year I am fully myself in my art. What about you?
